"I Need You To Masquerade My Face"
"I Need You To Masquerade My Face"
Three masques, two techniques.
The gold feather masque required a custom design, flexible but rigid, light but durable. To accomplish this I sculpted multiple variations of feathers from polymer clay, then took a mold of each feather. I then used hot glue to cast the mold. I covered a rigid mask I already had with foil and used its shape to get the right curvature and eye placement as I attached the feathers to each other. After painting it gold, I accented all the crevices with sparkling beads and Swarovski rhinestones, and added an acrylic patina. I lined the back of the mask with felt for comfort and added two decorative satin ribbons. For a unique spin and some extra razzle dazzle I added chains and beads to create the undereye portion on one side.
The black feather mask was created using the same process, but the client wanted dramatic feathers on one side, so I sculpted some clay to cast new molds. That one was brought to life with black paint and iridescent mica powder.
The third masque was created from scratch in polymer clay - each decorative element sculpted from gold and silver colored clay then coated with mica powder before firing for extra shimmer. Beads and rhinestones add sparkle while the black acrylic patina makes all the details pop.
