"I Need Wings. Metallic. Sparkly. ... Waterproof."
Waterproof wings that look like metal, are made to be worn seamlessly under wardrobe, sparkle like a sky full of stars and be zero gravity under water? I gotchu.
I planned every feather for the front and back of both wings using a pattern I drew on poster board. I got sheets of plastic from a local shop and traced out each feather from stencils I created based on the pattern. After painting the plastic sheets gold or silver, I then cut out the feathers and added various notches to each one and a groove down the middle to really give them some shape.
The supporting structure inside the wing is rigid wire and (I had to get resourceful here) a plastic hanger! I covered the armature with fabric and then glued on each feather with specialty adhesive that was waterproof and formulated to bond plastic. It looked great, but I knew we could take it next level, so like a total psychopath I applied rhinestones, one at a time, into the crevices of the wings (this step alone took 16 hours). I based the harness on what I could find for posture braces, and made it out of left over plastic, felt (for comfort), and elastic bands.
